A Gala Dinner was held on 26 May 2017 to celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of HKOTF and to express gratitude to those who have rendered support to organ donation as well as HKOTF throughout the years. About 150 distinguished guests from different sectors, including medical, educational, business, entertainment and the media joined the event. The Gala Dinner was officiated by Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, JP, the then Under Secretary for Food and Health.
A short video featuring the support of Mr. Andy Lau Tak-wah, BBS, MH, JP on organ donation was presented at the Dinner, followed by a sharing session by an organ donor and a family member of a late recipient cum donor. It is hoped that the message on the importance of organ donation and the need of patients waiting for organ donation can be spread out through the network of the guests.
Dr. Kelvin Ho Kai-leung, Founder and Founding President of HKOTF, expressed his gratitude to supporters from different sectors of the community and assured everyone that the Foundation would continue its efforts in promoting organ donation in all possible ways.
Professor Sophia Chan, JP, the then Under Secretary for Food and Health, mentioned in her speech that more than 2,000 patients were waiting for organ transplant every day and there was a need to enhance organ donation promotion. She expressed appreciation to the publication of the Senior Secondary Liberal Studies Teaching Toolkit by HKOTF, which could help promote organ donation more effectively in secondary schools.
