Sponsored by the Quality Education Fund, Hong Kong Organ Transplant Foundation started the project “Organ Donation for You and Me” Junior Secondary Teaching Toolkit in February 2020, with the objective of introducing moral education and organ donation into the curriculum of junior forms. We believe that a systematic introduction of moral education in junior forms can help the younger generation develop positive value as well as a culture of organ donation.
“Organ Donation for You and Me” is the first teaching toolkit in Hong Kong which brings out the knowledge and meaning of “Organ Donation” through 3 moral perspectives, namely “Holistic Health and Wellness”, “The Values of Life” and “Social Caring”. The 4 themes are organized into 4 modules which interconnect and echo with each other, constituting an overall concept of moral education. The toolkit makes use of activities, games, short videos and case studies to deliver key messages in each module. It encourages interactions between teachers and students so as to help understand students’ way of thinking.
15 seed schools* were invited to conduct trial teaching in junior forms in the 2020-2021 academic year. The Project also provides school-based activities, including seminars and school game booth for seed schools, with a view to enhancing students’ understanding and interests in the subject.
After the trial teaching, the toolkit was revised taking account of comments received from teachers. The final version of the toolkit was published in November 2021. If teachers are interested in obtaining a printed copy of the teaching toolkit (Chinese version / English version), please click here to apply. The electronic version of the teaching toolkit can be downloaded from the Toolkit Resource Center.
The entire junior teaching toolkit project has been successfully completed on December 31, 2022. The effort of the working team , including professional advisors Dr. Kwok Wai-luen, Dr. Mak Yiu-kwong, Ms. Yuan How-sin, HKOTF Founding President, Dr. Ho Kai-leung, Kelvin, Vice-President Prof. Chan See-ching , members of Education Sub-Committee, Vice-Principal Li Kwan-foon (Hong Kong Taoist Association The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 3 Secondary School) and Vice-Principal Wong Chung-wah (CMA Secondary School), as well as the full support of schools and teachers, were greatly appreciated. Without all their support, the project would not have rolled out smoothly.
